This meeting will take place in the Deerfoot Barn at Chestnut Hill Farm in Southborough where Erin Espinosa, Field Manager of Chestnut Hill Farm, will give us an overview of the farm, and her mission, and her work in the community.  She will also share how her work as a farm manager ties into her roll as an educator with the New Garden Society.

January - 2024

Business Meeting and Program

Warren Leach of Tranquil Lake Nurseries in Rehobeth, MA will give a PowerPoint presentation on "Drought Tolerant Gardening and Landscaping".  He will illustrate how much can be done in landscaping without the use of an irrigation system and what plants have drought survival mechanisms which make them survivors in our ever-changing climate.

Business Meeting and Design Workshop

A native of France, floral designer Isabelle Zee from "Les Bouques du Grillon" will lead a floral workshop.  Isabelle has lived and traveled around the world.  She grew up surrounded by flowers and, while traveling, she took classes for pleasure.  Before she started "Les Bouquets dou Grillon", Isabelle trained under Jean Louis Anxoine, the owner of the Jean Louis Anxoine School in France.  Anxoine is a world-renowned floral designer admired for his professionalism and orignial designs.

Caroline Rossen and Marilyn Stivers will demonstrate how to make a moss kokedama, in English, literally a "moss ball" on which an ornamental plant grows.  Kokedama originated in Japan,

where it is a combination of the nearai (literally "root wash" but meaning "no pot") bonsai

and kusamomo planting styles.  Like other vertical gardens, kokedama are visually

interesting while saving space at the same time.
